Somali police detain British man at airport with suspicious material
MOGADISHU – Somali police has Sunday arrested a man whom it suspected of carrying explosive material while trying to travel from Mogadishu’s airport to Ethiopia.
The suspect is said to be a British national was arrested as he was passing through security control at the airport, said in a report published by a local radio based in Mogadishu.The radio says the suspected man was detained and then was taken into criminal investigation department headquarters for further investigation.
There was no immediate comment from Somali police authorities over the arrest of Sbritish national in Mogadishu.
The security of the airport was beefed up after bombing on a Somali airliner which has made an emergency landing at the Mogadishu airport February 11, 2016.
A suspected suicide bomber blew a hole in the fuselage of a Daallo Airlines plane, with Somali officials said that the suspected suicide bomber had sucked out of the plane as his body was found in Balad town, 30km north of Mogadishu.
The mysterious mid-air explosion in Daallo Airlines’ aircraft has sent alarm across the world as security experts warned that the attack showed Al Shabaab militant group’s desire to add attacks on air transportations into their global jihad catalog. soomali police confirm that the man has no prior criminal record and he has tear gas canisters with Gas in it.
