Somali police boss dies of injuries after bomb attack
MOGADISHU – A Somali police boss for southern Galkayo town, Maj. Awil Nur Roble has succumbed to his injuries early Tuesday after he was seriously injured in an explosion claimed by al Shabaab.
Maj. Roble was injured late on Monday when a bomb explosive fitted into his car exploded in Galkacyo town, police said.
Roble was taken into hospital where he died on Tuesday.
The al Qaeda linked al Shabaab says it has been responsible for the bomb attack.
“We have targeted Roble in bomb explosion. He was one of our main targets”, said in a statement aired by Radio Andulus, an al Shabaab mouthpeice.
The group vowed to rump up its attacks in south and central towns of Somalia.
The rebel group was driven out of Somali capital, Mogadishu, in 2011, but it still holds large swaths in south-central towns of Somalia.
The al Qaeda linked grouop wants to topple the weak-western backed government based in Mogadishu.
Al Shabaab, one of the deadliest Islamic organizations in Africa was accused of carrying out truck bombing on 14 October, 2017 which killed over 500 people, 700 others injured in Mogadishu.
