Mareeg.com-Somali prime minister Abdiweli Sheikh Ahmed has praised the role played by regional body intergovernmental authority on development IGAD in his country.
Speaking in Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa during 25thextraordinary summit of IGADS heads of state and government Mr. Abdiweli has welcomed the organization’s support for his government.
He briefed the members on the ongoing joint offensive against Al-Shabaab militant group by Somali National Army and the AMISOM peacekeeping force saying already tangible developments have been achieved on the ground.
IGAD has promised to double its support for the federal government of Somalia’s efforts to return peace and stability in the country.
The final communiqué of the summit called on the international community to assist the Federal Government of Somalia in rebuilding the Somali National Army and in its efforts to establish administrative units and distribute humanitarian aid in newly liberated areas.
Al-Shabaab militant group has lost key strategic towns to Somali national army and AMISOM forces in the past few weeks since the government has declared an offensive against the group.
