MOGADISHU, Somalia –Somali PM Hassan Ali Khaire has called on country’s forces to eradicate Al Shabaab, an al Qaeda linked group while visiting newly trained army soldiers in Mogadishu.
Khaire urged the new soldiers, who completed their training at Gordon military base in the capital to prepare fighting against Al Shabaab, amid rising attacks in the capital.
He encouraged his soldiers to re-capture towns held by the militant group.
The al Qaeda linked group is fighting to overthrow the Western-backed government-based in Mogadishu.
The militant group lost key towns to country’s army forces and African Union troops, but it still holds large swaths in south and central Somalia.
The rebel group also stepped up its attacks in the capital of Mogadishu and some other southern regions of Somalia.
Last month, Al Shabaab killed 56 six people after its fighters carried out two car bombs in Mogadishu capital, and a deadly gun attack on hotel in Kismayo, some 500km south of the capital.
