MOGADISHU, Somalia – Somalia’s premier Hassan Ali Khaire has paid 317,000 to rebuild a wrecked bridge in Bardere, an agricultural town in Gedo region, some about 460km (285 miles) west of the capital Mogadishu.

In a statement, Khaire said his donation aimed to respond to numerous complaints from the public in the region.

He says the nation’s priority cover people’s needs after he met with lawmakers from the country’s Lower and Upper houses at his office in Mogadishu.

A large portion of motorway Bridge collapsed, causing halt trucks, public transportation, and business movements through regions in southern Somalia.

The bride was not repaired for over a decade.

Farah Ahmed, a local resident said rebuilding the bridge is an important step.

“This will handle all obstacles we face while we want to use the bridge”, he said.

“Repairing the bridges is actually beyond our capabilities”, he added.
