Somali pirates get life sentence in Tanzania

MOGADISHU, Somalia – Tanzania’s high court has meted a harsh sentence against 7 Somali nationals, who faced piracy allegations.

Yose Mlyambina, a judge sentenced them to get life in prison in Dar es Salaam.

The convicted pirates named as:

1:  Mohamed Adam

2:  Bashir Rooble

3: Muhsini Haji

4: Abdulwaidi Abdalahamani

5:  Faragani Abdul

6: Ali Nur

7: Omar Mohamed

Mlyambina says he took into consideration evidence by 14 prosecution witnesses and six documentary exhibits.

He concluded that the prosecution had sufficiently proved its case beyond reasonable doubt as required in criminal cases.

In October 2011, a Navy Unit of the Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (TPDF) captured the Somali suspects a short distance away from Mafia Island at night.
