Somalia’s opposition leaders warned they would organise separate elections unless President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud convenes a national political dialogue within 30 days.
The warning came in a 17-point communiqué after a two-day meeting in Kismayo, attended by opposition figures and Puntland and Jubaland presidents.
Opposition leaders rejected one-person, one-vote election plans and constitutional amendments, saying they centralise power in Mogadishu without broad consultation or consensus national.
The communiqué criticised proposed elections in Mogadishu, saying a single group is driving plans despite unresolved disputes over Banadir’s constitutional status there.
Opposition figures accused President Mohamud of mismanaging security, citing slowed operations against al-Shabab and worsening relations with Puntland and Jubaland leaders there.
