MOGADISHU, Somalia — Somalia’s military court has executed two Al-Shabaab members by firing squad on Monday for their roles in assassinations and bomb attacks in the capital, Mogadishu, officials said.
Hassan Ali Iftin and Hassan Ali Ibrahim Mohamed were taken to the execution site early on Monday, where Somali security forces carried out the sentence, the court said.
The court said the men were convicted of murders and bombings in Mogadishu, and the execution fulfilled a retributive justice ruling.
Similar executions have been carried out in recent days, including on extremist group members responsible for beheadings and targeted attacks.
Somali military court has also resumed carrying out death sentences against individuals previously convicted, including two Somali National Army soldiers found guilty of collaborating with Al-Shabaab.
