MOGADISHU – Somali armed group al Shabaab has claimed to have carried out an attack on Jubaland regional forces’ base near Kenyan border along Somalia.
The attack has triggered a heavy gun battle between Jubaland military forces and al Shabaab militants in Diif town.
The group says its fighters had overrun the military base, seizing weapons.
But, Jubbaland regional forces reportedly repulsed the attack orchestrated by al Shabaab.
Two militants were also injured in the fighting, a military official, who asked to be anonymous, said.
He says the militants had hijacked a vehicle belonging to a civilian.
