MOGADISHU, Somalia – Heavy gunfight has flared up on Tuesday when heavily armed gunmen carried out an attack on popular hotel in the Somali capital, Mogadishu.
The clash erupted after suspected al Shabaab militants attempted to storm inside by shooting at hotel guards, a witness said.
Somali armed group al Shabaab claimed the responsibility for the attack, saying its fighters carried out an attack on SYL hotel.
SYL hotel is popular with government ministers, lawmakers and other officials.
It is unclear how many were killed in the ongoing assault.
There was no immediate comment from Somali authorities over the claims.
