MOGADISHU, Somalia – A Somali man was among at least five other people died on Tuesday after their boat carrying migrants capsized off the coast of Libya, media reports.

At least 65 were rescued while dozens of others are still missing.

Charlie Yaxley, a spokesman for the UNHCR, said on his Twitter 40 people are feared dead following an accident of a boat off the coast of Libya.

Libya became a major conduit for migrants and refugees fleeing to Europe after the uprising that toppled and killed longtime leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011.
