MOGADISHU, Somalia — Somali military forces have killed five Al-Shabaab militants in an operation in the Ceel Cilaan area, about 30 kilometers east of Bardere town in the Gedo region.
Ministry of Defence said the militants had been harassing local communities, subjecting civilians to persistent intimidation and abuse.
During the operation, the army forces destroyed the group’s bases and hideouts. “The operation is part of our ongoing efforts to protect civilians and dismantle terrorist networks,” the ministry said.
Somali military will continue counter-terrorism operations until lasting peace and stability are secured nationwide, the ministry added.
The latest operation underscores the government’s determination to confront extremist threats and restore security in regions affected by Al-Shabaab.
