MOGADISHU, Somalia – Somali army forces have foiled an attempt by Al Shabaab militants to launch a suicide attack on an army base in Bardere town some 343km southwest of the capital, Mogadishu.
The troops shot and killed an alleged female suicide bomber after she hurled a grenade to soldiers, leaving two soldiers wounded, a witness said.
He says the troops found explosives strapped to her body.
There was no immediate comment from Somali military over the botched attack.
Somali armed group Al Shabaab carried out similar attacks for the last couple of months.
The group is fighting to overthrow the Western-backed government of Somalia-based in the capital Mogadishu.
