MOGADISHU – Somali military forces have carried out operations against al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab in towns and villages of Lower and Middle Shabelle regions in south of the country, in a bid to flush out of the remnants militants.
A Somali military official Mohamed Mohamud Gutalle said the operations were conducted nearly seized towns and smalls areas in the regions.
Col. Gutalle says such operations would continue until the group’s militants are eradicated.
The militant group has lost key towns in south and central to Somali army forces and African Union troops.
The rebel group has been waging insurgency for more than ten years in Somalia.
The al Qaeda linked al Shabaab has carried out similar attacks which killed dozens in the capital Mogadishu for the past months.
