Somali forces clash with Ahlu Sunna militias

MOGADISHU, Somalia –  A heavy fighting broke out between Somali army forces and Ahlu Sunna Sufis in Mataban town in Hiran region of central Somalia.

The skirmish flared up on Saturday when Somali interior minister Abdinasir Dahir Sabriye along with a large number of government troops arrived in the town, a witness said.

He says the Ahlu Sunna militias attempted stop minister Sabriye’s delegation.

It is unclear how many were killed in the fighting.

The Ahlu Sunna militias reportedly vacated from the town due to the fighting.

Risala, local FM based in Mogadishu, said the militias are regrouping outside to the town launch another attack in the town.

Neither Ahlu Sunna nor Federal government has commented on the latest fighting in central Somalia.
