MOGADISHU – Unknown gunmen have on Tuesday evening shot and killed female lawmaker in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu, police said.
The victim, whose name has been released as Ruqiya Abshir Noor was hit several times on chest and head by men armed with pistols at her home in Manabolio area, policeman Abdi Wakil said.
Wakil told Mareeg Online that Ms Noor had been rushed to Medina hospital where she succumbed to injuries.
Noor has been a member of Southwest regional parliament based in Baidoa town, some 250km southwest of Mogadishu.
The killers reportedly escaped from the crime scene.
Somali security forces reached at the spot and launched an investigation over the incident.
No arrests have been made over the assassination.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for Tuesday’s killing in Somali capital, but Al Shabaab carried out similar assassinations for the past months in the capital city of Mogadishu.
