Somali extremists raid on police station in Kenya

MOGADISHU – Somali armed group al Shabaab has carried out an attack on police station and Safaricom in Mandera town, a week after a US soldier was killed in an attack on US naval base in Kenya.

The attack took place around 10:00 PM local time last night at Olla in Mandera north sub-county, a local resident said.

He says the attackers destroyed both police station, and the Safaricom mast.

A water tanker was also destroyed while station partially burnt down.

Two police officers were at the station at the time of attack, he added.

He says an attacker injured in the assault.

Last week, Al Shabaab, an al Qaeda linked group carried out an attack on US naval base in Manda Bay, Kenya, leaving an American soldier dead.
