Somali electoral college shot dead in Mogadishu

MOGADISHU, Somalia – A 28-yr-old student writing his MA dissertation on IR, and preparing his marriage after Ramadan has been shot and killed by gunmen in the Somali capital Mogadishu.

The victim, whose name has been identified as Abdullahi Mohamed Maahi was gunned down by hooded men armed with pistols outside a mosque near KPP area of Hodan district in Mogadishu.

Maahi was a delegate in southwest parliament election in Somalia.

The killers escaped from the crime scene.

Somali police arrived at the area and launched an operation.

No arrests have been made over in the incident.

There was no immediate a claim of responsibility for the Friday’s assassination.

But, the al Qaeda linked group Al-Shabaab has vowed previously to kill the electoral delegates who elected the Federal lawmakers of the current Federal Parliament of Somalia.

Somalia has been without an effective central government since the fall of Mohamed Siad Barre in 1991.
