Somali colonels killed by explosion near Mogadishu

MOGADISHU, Somalia – A bomb explosion has ripped through an armored personnel carrier with Somali army commanders near the capital Mogadishu.

Somali colonel Abdisalam Sheikh Aden, a deputy of the 12th April Division was killed after roadside bomb explosion hit a vehicle he was travelling through Dhanane area near Mogadishu, VOA journalists, Harun Macruf said.

Aden and his bodyguards were reportedly heading to Marka town, some 90km southwest of Mogadishu.

He says the explosion also killed a colonel Abdirahman Jimale Muse, who is in charge of the finances of the 1st battalion of Somali army.

Tuesday’s explosion took place in the same area where deadly roadside bomb explosion killed army commander and deputy of the 12th April Division on December 6 last year.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for Tuesday’s bomb explosion.

But, such attacks are often carried out by Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab.

The attack comes a day after suicide car bomb attack on Mogadishu shopping mall left at least 11 people dead.

The Al Qaeda inspired group has battling the weak-western backed Mogadishu – based government for more than ten years in Somalia.
