Officials from Somalia’s National Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) have completed a training program in Beijing on disaster prevention and reduction, Somali and Chinese officials said Monday.
The training, organized by China’s Ministry of Commerce and carried out by the Red Cross Society of China, focused on building Somalia’s capacity to respond to natural and man-made disasters.
At a closing ceremony at the Red Cross Society of China headquarters, Somali Ambassador to China Hodan Osman Abdi joined Chinese officials, including Song Yi, deputy director general of the Red Cross External Liaison Department, and Yin Zheng, deputy director of the National Training Center.
Chinese officials urged the Somali delegation to apply their new skills back home and highlighted future plans for more training opportunities. Song praised the commitment of SoDMA officers and underscored the importance of partnership between the two organizations.
Ambassador Abdi officially closed the event, thanking China for its continued support to Somalia and expressing appreciation to the Ministry of Commerce and the Red Cross Society of China.
