Somali National Army Chief, General Odowa Yusuf Rage, visited Bariire in Lower Shabelle, recently seized from Al-Shabaab militants.
General Odowa inspected army positions and urged troops to maintain momentum, eliminate threats, protect communities, and consolidate security gains.
Last week, Somali Army forces, backed by African Union troops from Uganda, seized Bariire after a week-long battle against Al-Shabaab.
During the operation, 17 Ugandan soldiers were killed, several wounded, while Somali military claimed over 100 militants were killed.
Others were captured alive, and weapons seized, according to Somali military reports on the successful clearance operation in Bariire.
The visit demonstrates SNA leadership’s commitment to supporting frontline forces defending Somalia’s sovereignty, stability, and wellbeing of its people.
