The Chairman of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mohamud Moalim Abdulle, received Hirshabelle State Vice President Yusuf Ahmed Hagar on Saturday in Mogadishu to discuss the humanitarian crisis in central Somalia.

The meeting focused on the dire situation unfolding in parts of the Hiraan and Middle Shabelle regions, where ongoing military operations against the Al-Shabaab militant group have displaced over 60,000 people.

In addition, more than 10 health centers, including maternal and child health (MCH) facilities, have been forced to shut down due to insecurity and disruption of basic services.

Hagar briefed Chairman Moalim on the most recent developments, stressing the urgent needs of displaced families and communities affected by the conflict.

He appealed for immediate humanitarian assistance to prevent further suffering and support local recovery efforts.

In response, Chairman Moalim expressed concern over the scale of displacement and the collapse of essential health services in the region.

He reaffirmed SoDMA’s commitment to coordinating and delivering emergency relief to the most affected areas in both Hiraan and Middle Shabelle.

“This crisis requires swift and coordinated action,” said Chairman Moalim. “SoDMA is mobilizing efforts to ensure life-saving assistance reaches those in need as quickly as possible.”

The meeting is part of a broader effort to strengthen cooperation between SoDMA and federal member states to enhance humanitarian response mechanisms and build resilience in vulnerable communities across Somalia.
