Former President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed has condemned Somalia’s federal government for launching military operations in Gedo, calling it an attack on a federal member state.
He described the campaign in Beled-Hawo as reckless and accused the government of misusing national forces for political gain instead of fighting terrorism.
“Such actions could trigger civil conflict and displacement,” he said, urging peaceful dialogue over force in resolving political disputes.
He also called on the government to stop politicizing the military and cautioned that it threatens national unity and benefits extremist groups.
Gedo remains a hotspot amid ongoing power struggles between the Federal Government and Jubaland over upcoming elections
