Seychelles upset by Somaliland’s decision to free 19 pirates

MOGADISHU, Somalia –– Seychelles has condemned a decision by Somaliland to release of 19 convicted pirates whom Seychelles transferred to Somalia to complete their sentences.

In a statement released by Seychelles’s Department of Foreign Affairs accused Somaliland of violating a Memorandum of Understanding on the transfer of sentenced pirates between the Somaliland and Seychelles

The condemnation comes after Somaliland authorities released the convicts on Thursday.

The convicts were sentenced in Seychelles to serve 30, 36 and 42 years in prison for piracy before being transferred to Somaliland.

The Somaliland and Seychelles signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the transfer of sentenced pirates between the government Somaliland and Seychelles in 2011.
