Heavy fighting broke out between Somali government forces and Al Shabaab fighters outside the coastal town of Kismayo, killing at least seven militants.
The fighting flared up after heavily armed militants attacked on Somali military forces, along with Jubaland Forces in Bar-Sanguni area, some 50km away from Kismayo, according to military commander Abdi Ibrahim.
Ibrahim says the military forces killed at least seven militants belonging to Al Shabaab during Tuesday’s fighting near the town.
He confirmed five other Somali military soldiers had also been injured in the fighting, adding that the victims were taken into hospital in Kismayo town.
There was no comment from Al Shabaab over the claims.
