Qatar’s deputy spy chief pays surprise visit to Somalia

MOGADISHU, Somalia’s Qatar’s deputy chief of National Intelligence Abdallah Mohamed Mubarak Salah al-Khalifi, has arrived on Sunday in Mogadishu on an unannounced visit for the first time.

Qatar’s intelligence delegation was welcomed and escorted to the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) headquarters in the capital, Mogadishu, reliable sources said.

The sources within Somali security agencies said the main aim of the visit by Qatar’s intelligence delegation is to make assessment Somali intelligence.

Qatar has been trying to implement a project to help security agencies of Somalia.

The visit by al-Khalifi,  came a month after Fahad Yasin was appointed as the director of NISA of Somalia while Yasin is described to have closest ties with Doha.

Qatar launched various development and infrastructure projects in the horn of African nation of Somalia for the past years.

Earlier this year, Doha donated $200 million and more than 67 armored vehicles to the Armed Forces in its efforts to help Somalia in fighting against an al Qaeda linked group Al Shabaab.
