MOGADISHU, Somalia – A high-level delegation led by Qatar’s Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani arrived in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu.
The Qatari delegation was welcomed by country’s prime minister Hassan Ali Khaire at the airport in the capital of Mogadishu.
Speaking to the reporters, Somalia’s Minister for Airports Maryan Aweis Jama and the Qatari transport and communications minister, Jassim Saif Ahmed Al Sulaiti, said Qatar’s delegation’s arrival was part of building a new port in Somalia’s central town of Hobyo.
Qatar is among few foreign countries that provide support to Somalia and launched various development and infrastructure projects in the horn of African nation in the past years
Qatar is also supporting the Somali government in several development projects across the country.
The Gulf state donated $200 million and more than 67 armored vehicles to Somali armed forces in its efforts to help fight against the militant group in the country. on 20 February 2019 two contracts were signed and foundation stone laid for two road projects in the Somali capital, Mogadishu.
