Qatar Airways launches flights to Somalia

MOGADISHU, Somalia – Leading global airline, Qatar Airways has launched daily flights to the Somali capital, Mogadishu.

The inaugural Qatar Airways direct flight from Doha to Mogadishu was held at the airport of Mogadishu.

The Flight QTR1459 carrying 115 passengers from Doha arrived on Monday at the airport of Somali capital, Mogadishu.

Qatar Airways will operate three flights a week to the capital, Mogadishu via Djibouti.

Mogadishu says the inaugural flight to Mogadishu is a major milestone for Somalia.

The relations between Qatar and Somalia raised after Mogadishu allowed Doha the use of its airspace where “at least 15 Qatari planes flew through its airspace on the first day of the blockade”.

On 28 November 2017, Qatari Development Fund and the Somalia signed a 200-million USD project to rehabilitate and re-build two life-line projects that connect southern regions to Mogadishu.
