Puntland warns Somaliland over president Silanyo’s visit in Sanag region
Mareeg.com-Puntland has strongly condemned the visit by the Somaliland president Ahmed Mohamed Silanyo who toured the disputed town of Lasqoray in the northern Somalia region of Sanag.
The Puntland Information Minister Abdiwali Mohamed Indha-guran has sent strong message to its neighboring region of Somaliland over what he termed as a provoking visit inside Puntland borders.
“The visit of today 16/03/2014 by the president of Somaliland Ahmed Silanyo to the Lasqoray district of Puntland state of Somalia is direct aggressive and provoking against Puntland borders.” A statement from Puntland Information Minister said.
The minister said they have warned Hargeisa over unnecessary acts that may lead to armed clashes between Puntland and Somaliland.
According to locals, Puntland sent its troops to Lasqoray after Somaliland president Silanyo left the town late on Sunday.
Both Somaliland and Puntland claim the ownership of the Sanaag and Sool regions in the north of Somalia. Armed clashes between the two sides occurred in the region in 2000s
