Puntland authorities have launched a criminal investigation into a vessel carrying weapons off the coast of Bareeda district in Raas-Casayr.
The Sea World ship reportedly carried arms and armored vehicles with Turkish markings through Puntland’s northern coastal waters.
Some weapons allegedly reached civilians in Bareeda and Caluula, said in a statement from Caluula’s Prosecutor’s Office.
The incident took place on July 18, 2025, around 2:00 p.m., raising concerns about maritime arms trafficking in the region.
The district prosecutor ordered Raas-Casayr Police to begin an immediate investigation into the ship’s cargo and distribution chain.
The investigation aims to identify recipients of the weapons and determine who was behind the operation.
Authorities will also gather full details on individuals who boarded the Sea World vessel during the incident.
The ship’s final destination remains unknown, deepening suspicions over its mission and cargo.
