Puntland security forces killed ISIS militants in a planned operation in Xal and Walinsoor, located in the Calmiskaad mountain range.
The operation targeted caves and hideouts used by remnants of the militant group hiding in rugged areas of the region.
The operation reportedly lasted several hours and disrupted ISIS activities, destroying food supplies, weapons, and essential equipment.
A military spokesperson said the mission is part of ongoing efforts to eliminate terrorist groups hiding in the mountains.
“We received intelligence about ISIS gatherings and successfully destroyed their supply centers, eliminating multiple fighters,” the spokesperson said.
Authorities say operations will continue until fleeing militants attempting to regroup elsewhere are completely eliminated.
Puntland has vowed not to let extremist groups establish bases in remote mountains or ungoverned areas within its jurisdiction.
Local residents reported hearing gunfire and explosions during the mission, expressing strong support for the forces and hope for lasting peace.
