Puntland security forces have seized key areas from ISIS militants hiding in the Calmiskaad mountains of Bari region.
A statement from the Puntland Anti-Terrorism Operation Command said Dhaban-qooxle, Cas-caso, Ceelka Dul & Darayle, and Ceelka Gambarre were liberated during coordinated operations.
Puntland forces continue pursuing remaining ISIS fighters to remove them entirely from the region and restore security across the main Baallade valley.
“The 1st Battalion of Puntland Defense Forces conducted planned attacks in all directions, targeting key ISIS positions across the Calmiskaad mountains,” the statement read.
The operation has entered its fourth phase, covering land and air operations, with Puntland reporting significant and effective results against ISIS militants.
“The 4th phase of Operation Hilaac is progressing rapidly, with operations on land, in the air, and at sea, yielding positive outcomes,” it added.
The United States is providing air support to Puntland forces, assisting in operations against ISIS fighters hiding in the mountainous terrain of Bari.
The United Arab Emirates is also involved, conducting airstrikes to support Puntland forces targeting ISIS militants across the rugged mountainous areas of the region.
