Mogadishu, Somalia – A Kenya-registered cargo plane crashed near Mogadishu on Saturday, killing all five people on board.
The DHC-5D Buffalo aircraft, operated by Trident Aviation Ltd, was returning from Dhobley after delivering supplies to African Union forces.
It went down at 5:43 PM local time (14:43Z), about 24km southwest of Mogadishu.
Somalia’s Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA) identified the aircraft as serial number 109, registration 5Y-RBA.
Government agencies and response teams are on-site for search and rescue. The crash cause remains unknown.
“Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of those affected,” the SCAA said, promising further updates.
The flight had departed from Dhobley, Lower Jubba region and was heading to Mogadishu’s Airport before the crash.
