New US air raid kills 7 Al Shabaab in Somalia

MOGADISHU – A new US air raid targeting Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab group has killed at least 7 militants in Somalia

The airstrike was conducted in Caad area, Mudug region to support the government of Somalia’s efforts to degrade al-Shabaab, according to a statement by US Africom.

The US Africom said the strike had killed at least 7 militants.

“This precision airstrike was conducted in coordination with and in support of the Federal Government of Somalia as it continues to degrade al-Shabaab”, the statement said.

“We currently assess this airstrike did not injure or kill any civilians”.

US military says it belived that airstrikes would reduce al-Shabaab’s ability to plot future attacks, disrupt its leadership networks, and degrade its freedom of maneuver within the region.
