
Las Anod, Somalia — Abdulqadir Ahmed Aw-Cali (Firdhiye) was elected president of the North-East Administration in a vote held today in Las Anod. Firdhiye secured 62 votes, while his closest rival, Abdirisak Khalif, received 18.
The election, contested by five candidates, saw Firdhiye advance after a second-round vote. Abdirashid Yusuf Jibril (Abwaan) was elected vice president with 65 votes in a hand-raising vote, after other candidates withdrew.
Security was reinforced across Las Anod, with a curfew imposed to maintain order during the election process. Large celebrations broke out in the city following the results.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre congratulated Firdhiye and Jibril, expressing support for their leadership in promoting peace and stability.
Firdhiye’s win, backed by Villa Somalia, signals a significant shift in the region’s political landscape.
