Nairobi and Dar Es Salaam: Candidates for 2015 Intercity tourney hosting
Mareeg.com- Two historic cities Nairobi (Kenya) and Dar Es Salaam (Tanzania) are the sole candidates for the hosting of the 2015 Intercity Basketball tournament, Engineer Bana Abdalla Ali chairman of marketing and media commission of the Intercity committee revealed here in a press statement on Wednesday.
Chairman of Intercity committee media and marketing commission Engineer Bana Abdalla Ali said in his statement that initially three cities were bidding for hosting the tournament, but now only Nairobi and Dar Es Salaam are the remaining candidates for hosting the event next year.
“The intercity committee will announce which of the two cities will host the event sometime in September this year” Engineer Bana said in his press statement adding that each year new cities join the competition which is becoming more interested in the Africa continent.
“Intercity tournament was first inaugurated in 1999 with the participation of fewer cities but since then new cities were joining every year as we finally crossed from east Africa to as far as the north Africa, as our strategy was to make it continental and we already realised that ambition” said Engineer Bana Abdalla Ali chairman of marketing and media commission of the Intercity committee.
Somalia first appeared in the competition in 2010 with a team from the capital Mogadishu following Galkayo and then Garowe and Hargeisa.
In 2014, two cities represented Somalia in the competition, Garowe and Hargeisa and it was the first year that a team from Somalia finished 2nd place in history when Garowe was defeated by Cairo in the final match, but it was an immense history for Somalia who never played in the final of the event before.
Somalia and Intercity 2015
Engineer Bana Abdalla Ali said in his press statement that as a Somali citizen he will try his best to bring at least 5 or 4 Somali cities to the competition next year.
“As I have learned from the past history, many Somali cities are interested in coming to the competition, but the preparations were not enough, but I just want to inform them to make early preparations and in my capacity I will help every Somali city who is interested in to come to the competition” said Engineer Bana Abdalla Ali.
