MOGADISHU, Somalia — Somali lawmakers are drafting a motion against Prime Minister Hamse Abdi Barre after a meeting in Nairobi.
Over 100 lawmakers reportedly met in the Kenya’s capital to strategize a motion challenging Barre’s leadership.
The motion is expected to be submitted after the 6th session of the Lower House opens next month.
The motion draft is in progress, set for submission to the Speaker once the session begins.
In his third year as prime minister, Barre could become the longest-serving if he survives the motion.
This comes as President Ahmed Madobe of Jubaland is in Nairobi. He is also in a rift with Barre over last year’s election invalidation.
Madobe flew from Kismayo to Nairobi and defied a travel ban, using Nairobi as the base for his political campaign.
However, Parliament’s influence wanes after the 6th session as the government’s term ends and election preparations begin.
