Somali Defense Minister Ahmed Moalim Fiqi says Mogadishu’s security has improved, citing mass youth participation during midnight Independence Day celebrations in the capital.
He cautioned the public and media against amplifying Al-Shabaab propaganda, warning such messaging undermines national morale and distorts the progress made in securing the city.
Fiqi noted that the government recognized the youth who led the celebrations by awarding them certificates of appreciation for their patriotism, creativity, and peaceful organization.
Journalists who contributed to the event’s success were also honored in order to show the important role of the media in national unity.
Somali capital Mogadishu witnessed mass celebrations on July 1st, marking one of the largest Independence and Unity Day events in recent memory.
