Mayor of Mogadishu airlifted to Qatar for medical care
MOGADISHU, Somalia — Qatar’s air ambulance has airlifted injured Mayor of Mogadishu Abdirahman Omar Osman and 10 others to Qatar’s capital, Doha.
Mayor Osman was still unconscious and needs emergency medical treatment, according to a local government official, who asked to be anonymous.
The mayor of the Somali capital of Mogadishu was wounded and ten others killed in a suicide bomb attack on a government building.
Somalia’s Minister of Information Mohamed Abdi Hayir said two district commissioners were also among those who were killed in the attack.
Somali armed group al Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement, saying it targeted United Nations envoy to Somalia, James Swan who was visiting the government building.
