Kenyan forces destroy Hormuud Telecom mast in Somalia
MOGADISHU, Somalia – Kenyan Defense Forces have allegedly carried out an attack on Hormuud Telecom mast near Afmadow town.
The attack took place on Wednesday in in Jaldeyse village near Afmadow. It is the 10th attack targeted Hormuud masts near border town since July 2018.
Hormuud Telecom deeply regrets the senseless and unlawful attack by the Kenya orce on their masts, saying it has caused deaths and injuries and also destructions.
In a statement, Hormuud says the attack had a significant impact on the provision of phone, data and EVC services to large communities who depend on our network to buy basic needs such as food and water.
“We believe that these actions are unjustifiable in international law. To that end we are gathering forensic evidence to assist the efforts of any willing investigation body”, the statement said.
Hormuud calls on the government of Somalia as well as the international community and all human rights organizations to put all their efforts to prevent more of these attacks and hold the Kenyan government accountable for their barbaric attacks.
Kenya has troops in Somalia operating under African Union mission known as AMISOM.
