Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Ethiopia to fight in CECAFA Semis
Kenya who won all matches they played together with Uganda, Ethiopia and Tanzania have turned up for the semi-finals of the ongoing Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations [CECAFA] women’s championship
here in Uganda.
Saturday was a resting day and according to the fixtures of the competition, the semi-finalists will return to action on Sunday when Kenya’s Harambee Starlets will take on Lucy of Ethiopia in the first match, while Uganda’s Crested Cranes would welcome Kilimanjaro Queens of Tanzania in the second match.
As agreed by CECAFA and LOC officials, the first match will kick off at 1:30 PM while the second match is scheduled to start at 3:30 PM in order to allow enough time for additional time or penalty shootouts in case of the matches end in stalemate during the normal time that it takes to play a football match.
Despite of the absence of women’s challenge cup in the CECAFA region for the past three decades, women’s football in this part of Africa is still strong enough and was able to attract the attention of the rest of the world.
CECAFA Secretary General, Nicholas Musonye, said he has been receiving message of good will and congratulations from the outside world. “Thanks to local and International media for making the event more popular in the world of football” Musonye told the media on Saturday.
