MOGADISHU, Somalia – A roadside bomb explosion has ripped through an Italian armored personnel carrier on Monday in the Somali capital, Mogadishu.
The explosion targeted a European military convoy in the capital, causing an untold number of casualties, a witness said.
He says the explosion had partially damaged the armored vehicle.
Italy’s defense ministry confirmed that an Italian military convoy was hit by an explosion.
The ministry said none of its soldiers was killed or injured in the attack.
The attack comes after an al Qaeda linked group Al Shabaab carried out a massive attack on US airbase in Somalia.
The group was pushed out of Mogadishu capital in 2011 by Somali army troops and 22,000-strong African Union force in Somalia.
The rebel group also lost most of their strongholds, but it still controls large rural areas and remains the key threat to peace in Somalia.
