MOGADISHU, Somalia— Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar arrived in the breakaway region of Somaliland on Tuesday, nearly two weeks after Israel officially recognized the region, Israeli media reported.
Saar is expected to meet with Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi, a Somaliland diplomatic source told Israeli channel i24NEWS. The officials are scheduled to hold a joint news conference later in the day.
Israel’s recognition of Somaliland has drawn international concern and sparked debate over its potential impact across the Horn of Africa.
