Islamic State says 14 Al Shabab fighters killed in Somalia

MOGADISHU, Somalia – The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL, IS) has claimed to have killed at least 14 Al Shabaab fighters in fighting near Bosaso town, the commercial hub of north of Somalia.

The fighting broke out after the Al Shabaab militants launched an attack on Islamic State fighters in Mirale area near Bosaso town.

In a statement aired by Islamic state mouthpiece said, the group’s fighters had killed at least 14 Al Shabaab fighters during the fighting.

The group says it has also seized weapons from Al Shabaab.

The clash comes after Al Shabaab fighters sneaked into Al Maskad mountain, where is believed to be hideouts of Islamic State.

Al-Miskaad mountains, east of Bosaso in north of Somalia.

The Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab reportedly tried the same thing in late 2015 but Islamic State repulsed at the time, according to security sources from Puntland state.

There was no immediate comment from Al Shabaab over the claims.
