Huge fire engulfs weapon warehouse in Somalia

MOGADISHU, Somalia – A massive fire has engulfed a weapons depot at dawn on Sunday in small township lies some 40km away from Galkacyo town in central Somalia.

Loud explosions could be heard through the town after the blaze, Mohamed Hanad Mohamed, a witness said.

Mohamed says the fire caused electrical faulty destroyed weapon warehouse.

The warehouse is located in Docol township, about 40km away from Galkacyo town, he said.

Somalia’s Galmudug state authorities have yet to announce what caused the blaze.

No deaths or injuries reported yet.

Mohamed says residents nearby left their homes, fearing shrapnel from the blasts and the fire would reach their neighborhoods.
