Gunmen kidnap Kenyan engineers in Mogadishu
Unknown gunmen have kidnapped two Kenyan nationals from Tarabuunka junction in the Hodan district, Somalia’s capital Mogadishu.
The gunmen stopped a vehicle carrying the two Kenyans and their Somali colleagues, kidnapping the Kenyans at gunpoint while ordering the Somali colleagues to leave the area.
According to Radio Dlasan reports, the two Kenyans were engineers by profession who were hired by a businessman to work on building his petrol station.
The gunmen then drove off with the Kenyans to unknown location. Last month, an attack by unknown gunmen left three Syrian doctors dead outskirts of Mogadishu.
The motives behind the two Kenyan engineers abduction is still unclear however Alshabab militia group has claimed the responsibility of several Kenyan nationals previously abducted in Somalia for Kenya’s military involvement in Somalia.
The number of Kenyans working in Somalia particularly in the city of Mogadishu has increased since Alshabab militia group were driven out of the capital Mogadishu by the Amisom forces together with Somali national army two years ago
