MOGADISHU, Somalia – The President of Puntland State Said Abdullahi Deni has on Tuesday strongly condemned the “callous” killing of 12-years old girl in central Somalia.
Asha Ilyas, a 12-years old girl was found and dumped near her home in north of Galkacyo town, after she was abducted, raped and murdered by unknown men, according to police.
President Deni says such outrageous action against children is a gross violation, while speaking to the journalists in Garowe town.
He says his administration would punish whoever involved in Ilyas’s case.
Mr. Deni says such horrible actions could be done by some of the youth, who take narcotic drugs.
Ilyas’s body was laid to rest on Tuesday in the town, amid ongoing rally in Galkayo as protestors were calling on Puntland authorities to bring the culprits into justice.
Puntland police says it has arrested number of people on suspicion of being involved in Asha Ilyas’s case, after an operation in the town.
It is latest in a series of sexual attacks on women and young girls to shock Somalia.
