General Shegow Ahmed Ali died on Monday in a prison hospital after battling illness since last week
He was serving a 10-year sentence after his arrest on August 20, 2023.
Somali authorities have not yet issued an official statement regarding his death.
Shegow and 21 bodyguards were detained by Somali police after a violent clash for sheltering rogue soldiers in Mogadishu.
The charges against him included murder, robbery, fake government positions, money laundering, false documents, and insecurity in Mogadishu.
The military court sentenced Shegow to 10 years and ordered compensation for Sakariye Mohamed Ali’s death, caused by his actions.
He was also ordered to compensate police officer Abdullahi Hussein Abdukadir, who was injured during the clash.
Ahmed Mohamed Hassan, a bodyguard, was sentenced to death for killing two people in Jowhar, 91 km north of Mogadishu.
The court sentenced 18 suspects to six years, while two others received five-year sentences for involvement in a theft case.
