MOGADISHU, Somalia – Mob of angry people including women and children in Somalia took to the streets on Thursday in protest against sexual violence and assault.
The rally started in Badhan town, in northern Sanaag region of Somalia after a 9-years-old girl was gang-raped in the town, a protester said.
The little girl, whose identity has been kept secret, was taken into the main hospital in the town.
He says she is in critical condition after being brutally raped.
It is unclear whereabouts the rapists.
The brutal rape comes two months after a 12-years old girl Asha Ilyas was found and dumped near her home in north of Galkacyo town, after she was abducted, raped and murdered.
UN organization called for a speedy investigation into Aisha’s murder and for the enforcement of the Sexual Offenses Law, which criminalises all sexual offences in the Puntland State of Somalia.
UNFPA says there simply is no place for violence against girls and women in the world.
It says its organization was striving to create where every girl in Somalia grows up able to experience her inherent dignity, human rights and equality.
It is latest in a series of sexual attacks on women and young girls to shock Somalia.
