MOGADISHU, Somalia – Former Somali Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble has been denied approval for his diplomatic passport to visit South Africa.
Accompanied by lawmakers and former ministers, Roble had planned to travel Wednesday following an invitation from the Somali community.
Reliable sources confirm that Roble is now scheduled to travel tomorrow, using his Swedish passport instead.
The decision, which sources say came from the country’s top leadership, remains unexplained.
Roble is remembered for his role in bringing the current leadership to power during a period of political chaos and an election crisis.
His efforts led to Somalia’s indirect election, resulting in Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s re-election as president on May 15, 2022.
